How to Choose a Photo for a Custom Paint-by-Numbers Kit
A custom paint-by-numbers kit turns your own photograph into a numbered canvas that you paint by hand. A clear photo gives the design a stronger starting point. Choose the photo first, then consider the canvas size and colour set.
Start with a subject you can recognise easily
Pets, people and places can all work. Look for a clear expression, familiar markings or a shape that matters to you. A pet's face or a shared moment can be easier to recognise than a crowded scene with many small subjects.
For portraits, check that the eyes and important facial details are visible. For a landscape, look for separate shapes and a clear point of interest. Tiny faces, distant lettering and dense patterns may be harder to distinguish in a painted design.
Use the original photograph
Choose a sharp original file with even lighting. Screenshots, heavy filters and dark shadows can hide useful detail. Enlarging a blurred image does not restore the missing information. Use a photo you took yourself or have permission to reproduce.
Review the complete composition, including hands, faces and the edges of the photograph. The photo shown in the configurator is a composition reference; it is not the final numbered design or a promise of the finished painting.
Consider the canvas size before the colour count
A larger canvas gives small shapes more physical space. A simple portrait and a detailed landscape may therefore suit different sizes. Check the dimensions available for your delivery destination and think about both the subject and where you will display the painting.
KOMIVAN offers 24, 36 and 42-colour options. More colours can add tonal variation, but cannot recover details that are missing from the photograph. The photo, canvas size and complexity of the scene matter alongside the colour count.
Know what you are making
This is a DIY kit for you to paint, rather than a finished painting. The kit includes a numbered canvas on an assembled wooden inner stretcher, matching paints and brushes. A decorative outer frame is optional and separate from the included inner stretcher. Illustrative finished-canvas examples show the idea; your result will depend on your photograph and painting.
